Alex Zapien’s story reflects resilience, determination, and a steadfast commitment to public service. After stepping into the role of head of the family at 16 following his father’s passing, Alex excelled academically, earning degrees in Physics and Mathematics with a minor in Economics from Harvard University, where he was a JFK Institute of Politics Scholar and was Editor-in-Chief of the Harvard Science Review. He later earned an MBA in Economics and Operations Management from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business. Alex’s career spans roles as an operations manager, software engineer, and a civics instructor.

In 2023, Alex was appointed the Lockport Township Supervisor. Overseeing services for over 60,000 residents, Alex spearheaded initiatives such as a union-friendly Responsible Bidders Ordinance, free mental health and senior health screening programs, and community events like senior breakfasts and vaccine clinics—all while reducing the Township’s tax rate by almost 12%, the lowest rate since 2005. A leader in the Democratic Party at local and state levels, Alex remains driven to foster progress, opportunity, and fiscal responsibility for his community.
